Old Concord Road Shared-Use Path (Meadow Vista to Arlyn Cir)

This project will construct a shared-use path along the west side of Old Concord Road from Meadow Vista Road to Arlyn Circle. Construction of driveway improvements and wheelchair ramps are included in this scope. The construction of the shared-use path will help to improve safety and walking conditions for citizens along this minor thoroughfare. This project will also connect several miles of pedestrian walkways within this area. Old Concord Road Shared-Use Path is considered a high priority project based on CDOT’s sidewalk Priority list and was requested by the residents and business owners in the area. Improvements for Charlotte Water are also included in the project scope. Project Length= .85 miles.

Kuykendall Road Improvements

This project will connect sidewalk along Kuykendall Road from
Thorn Blade Drive to McKee Road, and add a right-turn lane from
Kuykendall Road on to McKee Road in order to to increase
pedestrian safety and help alleviate traffic congestion at the
intersection. Project will also fill in small sidewalk gap on the south
side of McKee Rd at Kuykendall Rd and add pedestrian signals with
crosswalk at this intersection. Project length = approximately 0.75
miles.

Arrowood at Whitehall Commons Intersection

This is an intersection project which will involve installing a new traffic signal with pedestrian signals, widening some of the approaches, replacing all curb ramps, mill & overlay, and pavement markings. The traffic signal will use steel strain poles.

Construction Manager at Risk for Robinson Church Road Phase 2

Construction Manager at Risk  (CMAR) Services

A CMAR will bring value in determining the most cost-effective alignment and provide potential construction phasing options, thereby minimizing schedule risks and constructability concerns.

The proposed design includes a 12’‐wide concrete shared‐use path along one side of Robinson Church Road, beginning at Plott Road (connects to Robinson Church Road Phase 1 Improvements) and continues to Harrisburg Road. Accommodations for pedestrian / bicycle crossings and minor upgrades at major intersections (Hood Road, the future Eastern Circumferential Roadway and Harrisburg Road) and minor side streets (Alanbrook Road, Ludell Lane, Irwin Road, Fairford Drive, Solares Drive, Jerimoth Drive, Culver Spring Way, Hammond Drive, Atlas Cedar, Deluca Drive, Castle Garden Lane, Williams Gate Lane and Jones Creek Circle) will also be included in the scope. The project team is early in the design phase and plans are currently at a 10% milestone level. The CMAR shall provide input on the design, including side‐of‐street analysis for the shared‐use path and pedestrian / bicycle crossings at all major and minor intersections to identify potential cost savings and schedule efficiencies.

Rea Road Widening (I-485 to Williams Pond Lane)

The purpose of this project is to increase capacity along Rea Road. Capacity will be increased by utilizing the right turn lane drops and median to develop an additional NB and SB through lane along Rea Road between the I-485 ramps and Williams Pond Lane. This project will also result in increased turn lane capacity and intersection improvements at Piper Station Drive and Ballantyne Commons Parkway. Pedestrian safety and mobility will be improved by providing sidewalks on both sides of Rea Road. Other specific improvements include: curb and gutter, accessible ramps, and driveways.

Firehouse # 46 Infill Station at Miranda Road

A new infill firehouse will be designed and constructed at 4032 Miranda Road to alleviate high call volumes and meet response time standards in the area. The firehouse will reflect the design of Firehouse #45, a 3-bay, 2-story firehouse programmed for approximately 14,600 square feet. The proposed facility will be located at the corner of Beatties Ford Road. Parcel #03741123 is approximately 6.54 acres. This location and site selection meets the City of Charlotte Policy for Sustainable City Facilities and Charlotte Fire Department Facilities Master Plan.

Wharton-Smith has been awarded CMAR services and is working on prequalifying subcontractors for the project.
