An existing space within Charlotte Douglas International Airport, located just off the connector on the Ticketing Level between Concourse A and Concourse A Phase 1, is being renovated to support a new MEDIC Breakroom. The space to be renovated has a combination of rubber tile floor/terrazzo, painted drywall, roll-up door, and acoustical tile ceilings. The new space will have kitchenette millwork with a sink, storeroom with shelving, new porcelain tile ADA restroom with sink, toilet, shower and associated plumbing, electrical and data outlets, new lighting, new water heater and new ductwork. The majority of the work will be performed on Ticketing Level within Security Identification Display Area (SIDA). Some plumbing and data work will be performed from Ramp Level within SIDA adjacent and above a baggage handling system makeup carousel.
D/E Connector (DECO) Expansion Project
The Project includes the renovation of the existing Concourses D & E Connector (DECO) and a building addition, totaling approximately 160,000 SF which includes:
- Providing a service area at the Ramp Level to accommodate operational needs per the project program including freight, service and passenger elevators, concessions and club loading docks, and airport storage while maintaining current traffic patterns.
- Repositioning and increasing the area of the major passenger circulation route of the D/E connector from the Atrium to the end of the moving walkways at the approach of Concourse D.
- Relocating the existing airline club space from the Departures Level to a new Mezzanine Level location providing approximately 40,000sf for the new club.
- Providing a new passenger destination and experience at the Departures Level approximately 51,000sf of new concessions and office space.
- Providing a new Roof Level mechanical penthouse of approximately 9,000sf.
- Relocating and upgrading utilities and jet fuel system impacted by the project.
- Coordinating with the Terminal Life Safety project for egress, fire sprinklers, and voice evacuation
- Accommodating the Terminal Operations, requiring coordination of Construction Activities as a 2nd priority to Passenger, Airline, Concession and Facility Operations.
- Providing new signage and wayfinding, aligning with current CLT standards.
- Providing a right of way for a future sterile corridor passing through the DECO project extents. Access to each end of the corridor will be provided under a separate project.
It is anticipated that the project will follow the City of Charlotte sustainability requirements and will be pursuing a Green Globes Certification. It is anticipated that a Construction Manager will participate in Green Globe Project Survey and provide services required to achieve the Construction Activity Participation.
Project Schedule
Design and Preconstruction Services: May, 2024 through May, 2025
Permitting Phase: May 2025 through August, 2025
CMAR Bidding and GMP Reconciliation Phase: August, 2025 through December, 2025
Construction Phase: January, 2026 through January, 2028
Project Delivery Method Selected and Justification
The project will deliver new cabinets through a Design-Bid-Build project delivery method. This method will provide the airport with the most cost-effective solution for installing 155 new AEDs cabinets. It will also standardize signage, locations, and AED types across the entire airport campus.
Concourse A Modifications
This Project aims to modify and relocate existing equipment, replace tables, add an experiential element, and extend tenant services at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The modifications of the existing equipment will accommodate a dual-use system at each Gate Counter including the electrical and data infrastructure leading up to the network. There will be a Flight Information Display System” that will need to be relocated in the connecting corridor which includes structural attachments to the building and repairs to the existing Terrazzo. Work hours between 2300 – 0500 EST to prevent disruption to Airport Operations. This project will require 100% badging for all workers. |
Concourse E – Phase 10
Add a small addition onto concourse E of approximately 4,350-7,150sf for offices. Base bid will be a 4,350sf addition with 2ea add alternates to add a 1,400sf bay/ea alternate for a potential maximum of 7,150sf. This area to be shell space, divided into 2 separate tenant spaces. Divider wall will be designed and installed to separate the two separate tenant spaces. Location of proposed addition is on the west side of concourse E between the employee turnstile and aircraft envelope E4.
FBO FUEL LINE REPAIR – Archived
Remove and replace fuel lines servicing the FBO fuel cabinet, flush and abandon fuel lines that previously served
Bank of America; remove and crate two fueling cabinets; miscellaneous repairs to fuel tank farm.
CLT Center Phase 14 & 15
The project includes the interior renovation and build-out of existing storage space and other minor renovations in the CLT Center located at 5601 Wilkinson Blvd. This will include relocating the existing conference room and Tech Help space in order for these spaces to be repurposed
RFQ: Design-Builder – CMPD Helicopter Hangar Relocation
Relocation of existing CMPD Helicopter Hangar to an off-site location alongside Billy Graham Parkway will be performed via Alternative Delivery Method, specifically Progressive Design-Build (D/B). FAA regulatory studies, analysis, coordination and permitting is a requirement of this projects scope. A Design Build team will be solicited to implement the project scope.
Loading Dock Expansion
The purpose for the Loading Dock Expansion Project at Charlotte Douglas International Airport is to increase capacity and efficiency at the existing terminal loading dock. The project will modify the existing loading dock facility to provide three additional truck bays (total of five), two service elevators, an extended canopy, and reconfiguration of the loading dock area for more efficient operations and future growth at the Airport.
Concourse E Moving Walkways
This project is to install three pair of new moving walkways on Concourse E at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (“CLT”). The Contractor shall provide new conveying systems that will work with the existing pit conditions and configurations, noting that one pair will be shortened by approximately 30’ to improve passenger circulation. Removal and disposal of the moving walkways, temporary infill of the of the existing pits, and pit modifications required to the first pair of moving walkways (E-MW-01/E-MW-02) are part of the separate Concourse E Renovations project (currently underway) and thus are not part of this scope of work. As such, it is imperative that the Contractor closely coordinate with the Concourse E Renovations project through the CLT project manager.
