Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) anticipates seeking statements of qualifications from professional architecture firms to provide design of an Early Baggage Storage (EBS) facility at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to address operational constraints with the existing Baggage Handling System (BHS). The project is intended to improve transfer baggage management, reduce sortation congestion, and enhance overall baggage system resiliency, particularly during irregular operations (IROPs). The proposed EBS facility would use an Individual Carrier System (ICS) tote-based storage system integrated with the existing BHS. The system is anticipated to provide approximately 1,830 storage positions within rack structures, at least two ramp-level baggage makeup carousels with a corresponding circulation service road, and required building and code-compliant systems. The EBS facility is expected to be approximately between 90 to 100 feet tall and may require relocation of existing utilities. It is anticipated that the proposed EBS facility would be a multi-level structure constructed above the existing loading dock.
