The Department of General Services employs almost 500 people and is among the most diverse departments in the City of Charlotte. The department delivers a broad set of services to residents and municipal agencies, aiming to build a better community for everyone in Charlotte.
General Services includes Engineering & Project Management and Asset Management, alongside the Office of Sustainability & Resilience, City Procurement, and Charlotte Business INClusion. This department oversees a range of city services, such as managing city cemeteries, tree management, and real estate services. It also provides fleet management and landscape management, ensuring the maintenance of public facilities and capital infrastructure.

Roadway project to connect the end of existing Ben Craig Drive to the terminus of Kenbrooke Drive, the terminal point of the Alexan Research Drive development.

This project includes the construction of a concrete shared‑use path along Carnegie Boulevard extending into Cameron Valley Parkway. Improvements will feature new street trees, pedestrian lighting, wayfinding and regulatory signage, drainage enhancements, site furniture, and a traffic signal installation.

This project will install a 6′ concrete sidewalk, 8′ planting strip, concrete curb ramps, Pedestrian Refuge Island, concrete driveways, 2′-6″ concrete curb and gutter, storm drainage systems, and street trees along Margaret Wallace Road from Summerfield Ridge Lane to Marshbrooke Road. The project length is 1,900 LF/0.40 miles.

This project will replace the bridge on Morris Field Drive between Wilkinson Boulevard and Golf Acres Drive, over the Norfolk Southern Railroad.

The purpose of this project is to increase capacity along Rea Road. Capacity will be increased by utilizing the right turn lane drops and median to develop an additional NB and SB through lane along Rea Road between the I-485 ramps and Williams Pond Lane. This project will also result in increased turn lane capacity and intersection improvements at Piper Station Drive and Ballantyne Commons Parkway. Pedestrian safety and mobility will be improved by providing sidewalks on both sides of Rea Road. Other specific improvements include: curb and gutter, accessible ramps, and driveways.

This project is located on Sharon Road at Eastburn Road. The project proposes a curve realignment adding a left-turn lane from Sharon Road on to Eastburn Road and removing the superelevation.

This project will widen the two-lane road to a four-lane median-divided road with multi-use paths between Steele Creek Road and Whitehall Park Drive, and a multi-use path north along Sandy Porter Road to the subdivision at Williams Glenn Road.

This project will improve the Idlewild Road and Monroe Road intersection to enhance conditions for all users. Improvements will include pavement widening to accommodate dual left turn lanes at all intersection approaches, bike lanes or multi-use paths, pedestrian refuge islands, and new sidewalks.

The DeArmon Road Improvements Project is part of the City of Charlotte’s Prosperity Village Comprehensive Neighborhood Improvement Program. The project will complete the infrastructure needs in the neighborhood by providing buffered bicycle lanes, median/turning lane, storm drainage, curb & gutter, sidewalk and a greenway passage beneath DeArmon Road for the future extension of Clark’s Creek Greenway.

Improvements on Harrisburg Road to create a more pedestrian-oriented corridor, between Ponderosa Pine Lane and Colwick Hill Road, Robinson Church Road and Timbertop Lane, and Winterwood Place and Sam Dee Road. Improvements will primarily include shared use path, drainage, curb and gutter, mid-block pedestrian crossing and milling and overlay of asphalt.
This project will reconstruct the intersection of Eastway Drive (NCDOT maintained) and Shamrock Drive (City of Charlotte maintained). Design element considerations include construction of a new quad roadway, revised turn lanes, sidewalk, bike lanes, wheelchair ramps, pedestrian medians, driveways, curb and gutter, storm drainage, landscaping, traffic signal installation, and pedestrian crossings.
