Charlotte Water / Architectural / Engineering Services
The East Flow EQ Basin and Grit Facility, constructed in 1997, is located south of the treatment facility along Little Sugar Creek. During high flow events, wastewater flows south by gravity to the Excess Flow Control Chamber via a 54” line. In the Excess Flow Control Chamber, there is a gate that can direct flow to either the McAlpine Creek WWMF or to the Flow EQ Fill Pump Station. With the gate to McAlpine Creek WWMF line closed, wastewater enters the Flow EQ Fill Pump Station and is pumped to the East Fow EQ Basin for storage. Once the storm surge is complete and staff want to empty the East Flow EQ Basin, wastewater can then drain via gravity or Return Flow pumps to the Excess Flow Control Chamber, where it then flows by gravity to McAlpine Creek WWMF.
